roland
crashed ! for the first time because of the CD-ROM It worked well when I've installed Mdk9.1 I don't remember if I've mounted a CD since then. But now each time I try to mount a CD-ROM it kills my server: frozen, dead: mouse doesn't move, keyboard not responding, even NumLock or CapsLock Led don't switch, masquerading dead, samba too, dhcp server as well: FROZEN. The CD-ROM is a Phillips PCCD048, installed as slave on hdb, the PC's chipset is a Intel 440 BX. What is strange is that I can boot on the CD-ROM and run the install CD, rescue mode ( last crash destroyed my /etc/fstab ) Does somebody had the same problem ? thanks roland
theYinYeti
Never happened to me... I'm no expert, but a hardware crash because of a hardware device makes me think of interrupts. ......Just forget what I've said. I don't know hardware, so anyone's advice on that will be better. Sorry :) Yves.
Gowator
Hmm. I'd check the log's (/var/log/system.log) and see what the error was. If its not reported that's significant. I.e. it means it couldn't write to the file. This might happen for instance if their was a problem on the primary IDE controller.... You might be able to sort this out a different way BUT why not just connect the CD to the secondary IDE.
roland
Hmm.I'd check the log's (/var/log/system.log) and see what the error was. nothing You might be able to sort this out a different way BUT why not just connect the CD to the secondary IDE. It works on hdc ... I'll not investigate more asuming the prob must be specific to my config thanks roland
Gowator
Last night I got home and my server had crashed. This might be coincidence ... I don't wanna sound arrogant but ... My server doesn't crash .... I didn't have time to work out why... It has never crashed before EVER ... it's uptime is usually months and then only for a HW change .. It should be pretty secure but I had a whole kernel panick.. I suggest everyone should check ... following Pauls announcment yesterday about his ISP - perhaps something fidhy is going on. Perhaps I just had a server crash ??? I'll know more tonight but later Im thinking of going to the Paris LUG ... wish me luck ... it will be a bit initimidating with the language and not knowing anyone... Roland - Yves .... HELP ... Anyone else there I'll be the one looking insecure holding the cuddly penguin tightly !!!
theYinYeti
I wish I could meet some of you, but I seem to be the only one here in Nantes... But if I happen to spend a week in Lyon or Paris someday, I'll drop a word ;-)
Gowator
I was in Nantes - nearly last month.... Had to get a cassier juredique ... In the end I sent it poste recommande but it was 50/50 If i'd thought we could have met up.... I pass Lyon frequently on my way to Montpellier ... I could always stop off and see Roland Im meeting Pierre Baco next time I down in the South. OR.... We could have all gone to the Linux Paris Expo ... perhaps next year. Pzatch
This might be old news but I just heard yesterday that SSH has a DOS hole that was just discovered in it. They have an update for it. Probobly old news for the real Gurus.
