cdemu - multiple virtual devices?

(Not entirely sure whether virtual hardware queries should belong in software or hardware, so decided to play safe with software...)

By default, cdemu / gcdemu creates just one virtual CD device at a time.

However, a quick internet search reveals that apparently it (well, previous versions at least) can handle several simultaneous virtual CD devices - and there is a <device> parameter in the CLI (command line interface). However, specifying 1 or 2 results in:

ERROR: Failed to load image: org.freedesktop.DBus.GLib.UnmappedError.CdemudErrorQuark.Code233492487: Invalid device number.

So evidently it's currently only configured to use device 0 (i.e. one device). Is there any way to persuade cdemu to accept multiple (i.e. 2) simultaneous virtual CD devices?
