VILLA21
I want to download the contrib files from: http://ftp.ntua.gr/pub/linux/mandrake/9.1/contrib/ There are 4 directoties /RPMS, /SRPMS, /i586, /ppc. Which one should i download?...ok, /SRPMS are the source files...but /RPMS and /i586 seems identical... (both are almost 1.8Gb) By the way, what"s the .ppc.rpm files in /ppc directory?... :D
paul
.ppc = Power PC ... Apple Mac Mandrake is compiled for i686 (I believe) so the i586 is for older architecture
liquidzoo
ppc is for the ppc version of Mandrake (designed to run on the Morotola Power PC processors, typically found in Macs). The RPMS directory are designed to run on all machines (I think, someone correct me if I'm wrong) The i586 RPMS are designed to run on an i586 or better machine (Pentium or greater). SRPMS are usually better to get, IMO anyway, because when you run the rpm --rebuild command the new RPM is built for your machine specifically. mtweidmann
You can include either i586 or RPMs they are the same thing. SRPMs are source RPMS, that means they provide code not compiled programs. Notr much use to you really. You'd be better off adding contrib to URPMI than trying to download/install manually. http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/
