Trio3b
Running mdvOne 2009 on presario CQ 50 laptop. This DVD RW drive does not recognize DVDs or audio CDs but does see data disks and was able to burn a data DVD in k3B. MCC sees the drive and lists options as umask=0,users,iocharset=uf8,noauto,ro,exec but there is no entry in fstab or mtab None of the media software can find media ("no media present") KsCD, Amarok, Totem, Dragon video player. Could this have to do with the sound driver? DRM? Drive works in Vista. Any help appreciated. Thanks Edited November 21, 2008 by Trio3b
scarecrow
For reading video DVD's install a css descrambler- most likely libdvdcss2 from PLF. Audio CD's are not mountable (no filesystem present)- just use the proper software for playback. Regularly, you can use kscd for them, but you have to enable digital playback (from the program settings) to access them. Smplayer is also playing back audioCD's just fine. And, no fstab entry is needed for any removable media- HAL is taking care of them.
Trio3b
Thanks for the reply. Sorry, I missed some stuff in the errata about kde4 apps not playing audio so will give that a go and post back.
Trio3b
Hmm. Downloading phonon-xine now allows KsCD to work but it seems very stripped of conguration. Have followed every advice in 2009 errata and still no video in Dragon, Totem or mplayer. Have d/l libdvdcss2, win32 codecs, all the gstreamer stuff...nothing. In fairness I have never got totem or kaffeine to do anything (audio or video) going back to MDK 10.0. Now totem just closes after I hit "play disc". Dragon Player crashes. Mplayer has worked in the past but now just sits there. I'm still wondering if there is some DRM'd stuff in the optical drive firmware, but still am able to read and write data to CDs and DVD. Any help appreciated. Edited November 23, 2008 by Trio3b
