Guest id4398
Hello, I am a linux newbee, I installed mandrake 9.1 on my laptop. But i cannot use ACPI feature. There is no /proc/acpi directory , but there is /etc/acpi/events. Whenever i run $acpi, i get "No ACPI support in kernel .....or incorrect path procacpi" Please help. thanks. bvc
3 things. 1. your bootloader has to tell the kernel to use acpi with acpi=on You can do this in mcc>Boot>DrakBoot>Configure and check of ACPI. Or edit /etc/lilo.conf and add acpi=on to the append line to read append= acpi=on and run lilo -v in a terminal. 2.acpi and acpid have to be installed. Should be already but you can check with the command rpm -qa | grep acpi 3. Check in mcc>System>DrakXServices that all acpi is to run at boot. jlc
Try disabling the "Legacy USB Support" option in the BIOS.

mtweidmann
I'm using ACPI on my Compaq Presario and it works fairly well. I found that you have to make sure that APM is not running before you try to run ACPI. That means stopping it from loading at boot (mcc>System>DrakXServices) and also disabling in Lilo.
