send a vocal message to a friend by post

I can't imagine why do you want to do such thing, a plain text message is not enough? what about netiquette, yes, that rule about not using more bandwith than what is really needed? OK, sorry, forget those silly questions we are in a world dominated by M$, and I have a horrible headache.

I've never sent a voice message, but this is what I would do:

First save your voice message (press ctrl-c when you finish the record):

~$ rec myvoice.wav

Next compress it into ogg or mp3 formats (a bit of bandwith saving):

~$ lame myvoice.wav myvoice.mp3

Finally fire up your favorite mail client and attach 'myvoice.mp3' to your friend's message

I'm not sure which bit is difficult, maybe the choice of recorder/mail client/language ??

1) Choose a mail client

2) Choose a recording client

3) Use your chosen recording programme : krecord, rec .... etc and record the sounds .. save them as a WAV ....

If you have both got broadband and don't care what bandwidth you use (ahh to be young and in love) then just add it as an attachment in your mail message. If you are using a webmail client (Yahoo/Hotmail/etc)you will need to upload it first!!!

4) Mail it.

Optional step is 3b..... Compress it to MP3 or OGG. This will save bandwidth.... If you have unlimited bandwidth then you mightest well just talk using VOIP but I guess this isn't what you want.

If this doesn't make sense I'll rewrite it in French.

Mais je pense c'etait facile.
