  5. It is high time for the Linux community to make a list of the laptops that can run Linux without Microsoft interfering ! I just bought a laptop to demonstrate Linux to the world and found the following : http://fr.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi...R&ID=0000003703 since january I was asking for some advice on the french Alionet : http://www.alionet.org/index.php?showtopic=1384&st=0 Alas I could not find the proper information at that time We are helping Microsoft by not indicating the free laptops constructors
  6. Hi, Have you got any problem during the installation of MDK 10.0 ? I haved mandrake 9.1 installed on my laptop Compaq Armada 100S and it's the best OS for that laptop I had problems to install the new applications versions and stopped it I never could install the mandrake 10.0 on this laptop or my other PC's I have keyboard & mouse freezing stiff at any step during the installation or afterwards without any messages so I went to suse & I am very happy with it I wonder if I should try mandriva 10.1 ? I would be happy to use again Mandriva which was my first Linux OS to operate safely
  7. OO.org 1.1 is better & faster than OO.1.0 the question is still there : can I install OO.1.1 on MDK 9.1 without problems ? In this case, should I uninstall OO.1.0 first ? the last openoffice is more userfriendly than the first issue

  11. Since I bought a new PC 2 years ago I was able to install Mandrake 9.1 then impossible to install MDK 10.+ It was a good idea to propose a new PC with mandrake for 299 euros but it should be better to point out another couple of PC's one for the basic beginner, one for the family and one for the special purposes and games this is the least Linux should do if we want to compete on fair grounds with MS the majority of windows users, where I belong, is not able to choose a proper compatible Linux PC I had to turn to suse 9.0 then 9.1 which accept my video card "ATI Radeon IGP 320 (M)" but not completely so it remains a slight flickering of the screen I will keep windows until I can find a ready made PC fully compatible with Linux how long will it take for Linux to indicate the type of PC usable with Linux ? 19. the difficulty with Linux isn't the way it works but the way the tutorials are designed to start with a simple sudo example : just write : username ALL=ALL under the line where you find " root ALL=(ALL) ALL" and your user has the root's rights during 5 minutes (by default) find something simpler ? if this doesn't work then you know there is a fault somewhere it's a pity the "man:something" doesn't start with the simplest example you can find using the command a lot more people could have acces to linux and be happy with it
