Chris H
2009 KDE4 Is there a recognised way of installing the gnome desktop onto an existing 2009 KDE4 system? Maybe a metapackage in urpmi? Ta.
SilverSurfer60
If you want to keep your kde set up you can install task-gnome which should install the components required. Log out of the current session and select gnome at the log in screen. Likewise if you want to rid your system of kde4, once logged into gnome you can uninstall task-kde which will remove any kde packages that are not required . Then kde will no longer be available at the log in screen.
ianw1974
You can do: urpmi task-gnome-minimal also. This is all I have installed, and then I just get whatever other packages I need after this. This will give you a minimal gnome desktop, maybe without a ton of functionality that you might not even use. Beagle for instance and bluetooth stuff, gnome-games, etc. These are the only extra packages I seem to get if I tried it now: [root@esprit ian]# urpmi task-gnome In order to satisfy the 'bluez-pin' dependency, one of the following packages is needed: 1- kdebluetooth4-0.2-1mdv2009.0.x86_64: Access and control bluetooth devices in KDE4 (to install) 2- bluez-gnome-0.28-1mdv2009.0.x86_64: Bluetooth pairing and control applet (to install) 3- kdebluetooth-1.0-0.beta8.8mdv2009.0.x86_64: Access and control bluetooth devices in KDE (to install) What is your choice? (1-3) 2 To satisfy dependencies, the following packages are going to be installed: Package Version Release Arch (medium "Main") beagle 0.3.8 12mdv2009.0 x86_64 beagle-evolution 0.3.8 12mdv2009.0 x86_64 beagle-gui 0.3.8 12mdv2009.0 x86_64 beagle-libs 0.3.8 12mdv2009.0 x86_64 bluez-gnome 0.28 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 (suggested) bluez-utils 3.36 5mdv2009.0 x86_64 (suggested) deskbar-applet 2.24.0 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 evolution-webcal 2.24.0 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 ggz-client-libs 0.0.14.1 3mdv2009.0 x86_64 gnome-games 2.24.0 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 gnome-panel-sharp 2.24.0 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 gnome-pilot 2.0.16 2mdv2009.0 x86_64 gnome-python-gnomeprint 2.24.0 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 guile 1.8.5 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 lib64SDL_mixer1.2_0 1.2.8 8mdv2009.0 x86_64 lib64avahi-ui1 0.6.23 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 lib64ggz2 0.0.14.1 4mdv2009.0 x86_64 lib64ggzcore9 0.0.14.1 3mdv2009.0 x86_64 lib64ggzdmod6 0.0.14.1 5mdv2009.0 x86_64 lib64ggzmod4 0.0.14.1 3mdv2009.0 x86_64 lib64gtkglext-1.0_0 1.2.0 4mdv2009.0 x86_64 lib64guile17 1.8.5 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 lib64mesaglut3 7.0.4 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 lib64openobex1 1.3 7mdv2009.0 x86_64 (suggested) lib64smpeg0.4 0.4.4 38mdv2009.0 x86_64 mono-addins 0.3.1 2mdv2009.0 noarch mousetweaks 2.24.0 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 (suggested) obex-data-server 0.3.2 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 (suggested) python-beagle 0.3.5.1 2mdv2009.0 x86_64 (suggested) python-gtkglext 1.1.0 5mdv2009.0 x86_64 python-opengl 2.0.1.09 7mdv2008.1 x86_64 taglib-sharp 2.0.3.0 2mdv2009.0 noarch tomboy 0.12.0 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 vinagre 2.24.0 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 vino 2.24.0 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 (medium "Main32") task-gnome 2009.0 4mdv2009.0 noarch (medium "Contrib") nautilus-sendto 1.0.1 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 (suggested) nautilus-sendto-bluetooth 1.0.1 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 (suggested) nautilus-sendto-evolution 1.0.1 1mdv2009.0 x86_64 (suggested) (medium "Non-free") bluez-firmware 1.2 4mdv2009.0 x86_64 (suggested) 84MB of additional disk space will be used. 27MB of packages will be retrieved.
