Installing Gnome on 2009 [solved]

If you want to keep your kde set up you can install task-gnome which should install the components required. Log out of the current session and select gnome at the log in screen.

Likewise if you want to rid your system of kde4, once logged into gnome you can uninstall task-kde which will remove any kde packages that are not required . Then kde will no longer be available at the log in screen.

You can do:

urpmi task-gnome-minimal

also. This is all I have installed, and then I just get whatever other packages I need after this. This will give you a minimal gnome desktop, maybe without a ton of functionality that you might not even use. Beagle for instance and bluetooth stuff, gnome-games, etc. These are the only extra packages I seem to get if I tried it now:

[root@esprit ian]# urpmi task-gnome
In order to satisfy the 'bluez-pin' dependency, one of the following packages is needed:
1- kdebluetooth4-0.2-1mdv2009.0.x86_64: Access and control bluetooth devices in KDE4 (to install)
2- bluez-gnome-0.28-1mdv2009.0.x86_64: Bluetooth pairing and control applet (to install)
3- kdebluetooth-1.0-0.beta8.8mdv2009.0.x86_64: Access and control bluetooth devices in KDE (to install)
What is your choice? (1-3) 2

Proceed with the installation of the 40 packages? (Y/n) ^C

Maybe because I installed other stuff manually as and when I needed it.
