bvc
Fantastic Technochris1! How did you find that that was the prob? Tyme, how do you know what it's running at?... a cat /proc/xxx command? The message is always "assuming 33.....probe later" so I always figured it was being changed later  This would go for install as well, no? I mean, this is normal, no? If it's capable of 133 it'll work at 33, so I wonder why it hung the kernel? I'm lost :?
tyme
Tyme, how do you know what it's running at?... a cat /proc/xxx command? The message is always "assuming 66.....probe later" so I always figured it was being changed later  mine always says, assuming 33....whatever. so, i assume that it's assuming 33 since it never changes to anything else as for as i can see...i'm sure there's a way to find out for sure (i think i did this before, actually...*runs off to search*) found it ----->
bvc
That still does give an actual reading that says 133 or whatever. Of cource you can tell with hdparm by what udma is set. Oh well, I've been through all the /proc stuff. If you want to know other goodies like idebus= checkout my post of the kernel parameters; http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=3099 I thought this was a cool /proc reading (new MoBo and I'm new to via/AMD) [root@localhost /]# cat /proc/ide/via ----------VIA BusMastering IDE Configuration---------------- Driver Version: 3.36 South Bridge: VIA vt8235 Revision: ISA 0x0 IDE 0x6 Highest DMA rate: UDMA133 BM-DMA base: 0xe000 PCI clock: 33.3MHz Master Read Cycle IRDY: 0ws Master Write Cycle IRDY: 0ws BM IDE Status Register Read Retry: yes Max DRDY Pulse Width: No limit -----------------------Primary IDE-------Secondary IDE------ Read DMA FIFO flush: yes yes End Sector FIFO flush: no no Prefetch Buffer: yes yes Post Write Buffer: yes yes Enabled: yes yes Simplex only: no no Cable Type: 80w 80w -------------------drive0----drive1----drive2----drive3----- Transfer Mode: UDMA UDMA UDMA UDMA Address Setup: 120ns 120ns 120ns 120ns Cmd Active: 90ns 90ns 90ns 90ns Cmd Recovery: 30ns 30ns 30ns 30ns Data Active: 90ns 90ns 90ns 90ns Data Recovery: 30ns 30ns 30ns 30ns Cycle Time: 22ns 30ns 60ns 60ns Transfer Rate: 88.8MB/s 66.6MB/s 33.3MB/s 33.3MB/s [root@localhost /]#
