Ok,

I was installing web downloader nt, and was using urpmi, and the rpmfind database.

the program installed great!

But now, ANY widget associated with kde (kwrite, konquerer, even the login prompt for mandrake) is out of wak.

It tries to make them 12 feet long, and they look real disorganized.

I can still log in and everything, the system is running fine ( I love linux) but what the heck?

Where do I begin to fix this?

Your desperate and confused pal,

Ken

OK,

I uninstalled the d4x rpm, but the k-windowz are still huge.

I experimented by trying to run a few apps in a shell. Each time, getting (kwrite example)

I get this:

Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2

QWidget::setMaximumSize: (unnamed/KStatusBarLabel) The largest allowed size is (

32767,32767)

what is this QWidget and how do I make it pay for its insulence?

Help!

Whoa! installing d4x a dep was qt? Heh? Aside from that, updating qt is always a touchy situation with kde. If this is the case it's amazing kde even starts if the versions don't match. I'm no expert there though I'm a gnomer

It seems to happen in all user areas, as well as the login deal for mandrake.

It does not happen to gtk apps. So the system is working fine, just graphically crazy.

Do you know what QWidget is? Can it be configured. It seems that when the apps start, qwidget calls them to be in the largest possible mode. I'm sure that this is the problem that all of them are having.

How the @#$@#$@ do I adjust that?

On a side note:

I see this thread as a personal accomplishment for me. Ive been using Mandrake (no windoz) for almost three years, but have robbed myself of the chance to learn very much by simply reinstalling everytime there is a sign of trouble.

I'd really like to find a solution

Does anyone think this could be solved b re-installing KDE?

How in the heck would I begin to reinstall kde in mdk 9.0?

Any hints?

Ive tried mandrake update, and some of the 19 necessary packaged wont download. Is there another way?
