riorama
Ok, I was installing web downloader nt, and was using urpmi, and the rpmfind database. the program installed great! But now, ANY widget associated with kde (kwrite, konquerer, even the login prompt for mandrake) is out of wak. It tries to make them 12 feet long, and they look real disorganized. I can still log in and everything, the system is running fine ( I love linux) but what the heck? Where do I begin to fix this? bvc
I don't remember the version but there was some issues with a d4x rpm. Have you tried uninstalling it to see if it fixes it? Then download another version?
riorama
OK, I uninstalled the d4x rpm, but the k-windowz are still huge. I experimented by trying to run a few apps in a shell. Each time, getting (kwrite example) I get this: Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 QWidget::setMaximumSize: (unnamed/KStatusBarLabel) The largest allowed size is ( 32767,32767) what is this QWidget and how do I make it pay for its insulence? Help! ken
riorama
Alright, I'll try to reinstall qt. This may have been the issue (bad qt install) when I did the urpmi for d4x. We'll see. Arrrrgggghhhh.
bvc
Whoa! installing d4x a dep was qt? Heh? Aside from that, updating qt is always a touchy situation with kde. If this is the case it's amazing kde even starts if the versions don't match. I'm no expert there though I'm a gnomer
iphitus
I'm pretty sure there is an update which fixes this. Maybe get tyme's update ISO, or get it through mandrake update. The alternative is to use GTK based apps :D James
riorama
Do you know what the file is that I should update? Is there a config script anywhere for the kde widget? ken
pmpatrick
If you log in as root in graphical mode, do you have the same prob with kde apps? If not, it must be something in your .kde in your home directory.
riorama
It seems to happen in all user areas, as well as the login deal for mandrake. It does not happen to gtk apps. So the system is working fine, just graphically crazy. Do you know what QWidget is? Can it be configured. It seems that when the apps start, qwidget calls them to be in the largest possible mode. I'm sure that this is the problem that all of them are having. How the @#$@#$@ do I adjust that? On a side note: I see this thread as a personal accomplishment for me. Ive been using Mandrake (no windoz) for almost three years, but have robbed myself of the chance to learn very much by simply reinstalling everytime there is a sign of trouble. I'd really like to find a solution
riorama
Does anyone think this could be solved b re-installing KDE? How in the heck would I begin to reinstall kde in mdk 9.0? Any hints? Ive tried mandrake update, and some of the 19 necessary packaged wont download. Is there another way?
