I was looking for an image viewer for the console, in first place, any program able to show pics, but if i get picky... well, a good program!

Also, if there is any for X kind of irfanview for windows, i really miss that one.

Im thinking on ussing it with WINE, but the last version i wanted to use it i had to delete a directory (someone over here gave the tip) to make it work.

Any way, if there is a good native im. viewer, better.

I already searched trough sourceforge and freshmeat, but they dont have good search options, and i couldnt find any fitting my needs.

Any help, really apreciated.

There's also aview/asciiview. It only displays ascii art. It's pretty nice, but there are some file format limitations (that can be worked around), here's the description from man aview

This  manual  page documents briefly the aview, and asciiview commands.

This manual page was written  for  the  Debian  GNU/Linux  distribution

because the original program does not have a manual page.

aview/asciiview  is  a  program  that show files with ascii-art.  aview

support zooming/unzooming, three dithering modes, Inversion,  Contrast,

Bright, Gamma control and can save into many formats (html, text, ansi

more/less etc...). The aview can only show files in the PNM  file  for-

mat.  But  the  asciiview program convert the file formats to PNM (with

extern programs like NetPBM and ImageMagic) and start aview.  It's sup-

port  the driver from the aalib. Normaly slang, x11 and stdout. It sup-

port the mousedriver (X11 and gpm) too.

P.S.: Yeah... it says 4 hour uptime... stupid power failures...

found another

fbi

This is an image viewer for Linux frame buffer devices.  It has built-in

support for a number of common image file formats.  For unknown files, it

tries to use convert from the ImageMagick package as an external converter.

Sorry no link, I found it using synaptic while in Debian. A quick google should find its home though.

For the console:

zgv (1) - picture viewer for VGA/SVGA displays

zgv  lets  you  view pictures on Linux boxes with VGA/SVGA

displays. The kinds of pictures it  supports  are  raster-

format   pictures   (sometimes   called  `bitmaps'  and/or

`pixmaps'); things like GIF files, JPEG files, PNG  files,

and  so  on.  (The  full list of file formats supported is

listed elsewhere. See Supported File Formats.)
