Andrewski
Hi, I'd like to change my computer name on the network. Right now, it's just client-0-000 (the last digits of my IP). I'm on a LAN at university (Novell) and would like to change the name and have it stay. Possible?
Steve Scrimpshire
Try this. In /etc/samba/smb.conf either create or change the line like this: netbios = {Linux computer name} See if that works. Of course you'll have to restart nmbd and smbd
ranger
Mandrake Control Center->Network & Internet->Drakconnect->Wizard->Expert mode, and it will allow you to set your various hostnames, set them all, and it should work. Otherwise take a look in /etc/sysconfig/network, and ensure HOSTNAME is set. Samba by default uses your hostname as your netbios name, so it's usually not necessary to change it.
