phunni
I have just upgraded to evolution 1.4.3 (using portage on gentoo) and now, whenever I start evolution, I get the following errors: warning: failed to load external entity "/home/paul/evolution/config/storage-set-view-expanded:default" (evolution:29437): evolution-shell-CRITICAL **: file e-storage-set.c: line 639 (e_storage_set_get_folder): assertion `g_path_is_absolute (path)' failed gtkhtml-ERROR **: gconf error: Configuration server couldn't be contacted: CORBA error: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/BAD_OPERATION:1.0 aborting... The application 'gnome_segv' lost its connection to the display :0.0; most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed the application. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to solve this? Please?
phunni
I have just noticed that I can start evolution without any problems as root - does this shed any light?
bvc
No but a quick fix would be to mv evolution evolution.bak Or try editing the file /home/paul/evolution/config/storage-set-view-expanded and if default says default=true change it to default=false or vice versa. That's all I can think of :( edited for spelling
phunni
Neither of the above made any difference. I think this may be a more fundamental gnome problem
texasaggie
I have this same problem on a machine I keep at work that I update frequently from cooker. When I first noticed the failure, I tried to login to gnome directly and could not. A few days later when I looked again (and had updated some RPMs), GNOME was working. I had been using Evolution 1.2 and had a large calendar. I never got 1.3 RPMs to run. I got 1.4 to start by deleting my evolution directory (after backing it up) and then imported in my old 1.2 calendar entries. 1.4 on the whole is very unstable for me - the UI locks up a lot and I've noticed that if I kill the calendar alarm process, things start right up. Good luck.
