ral
At time like this really miss my ML9 PC at home. Anyway, "# grub.conf generated by anaconda # # Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file # NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that # all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg. # root (hd0,1) # kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/hda3 # initrd /initrd-version.img #boot=/dev/hda default=0 timeout=10 splashimage=(hd0,1)/grub/splash.xpm.gz title Red Hat Linux (2.4.18-14) root (hd0,1) kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.18-14 ro root=LABEL=/ initrd /initrd-2.4.18-14.img title DOS rootnoverify (hd0,0) chainloader +1" If I change default form "0" to "1", does this mean that the system will boot to Windows (title DOS) by default instead. Thanks.

ral
Thanks bvc. I read the RH manuals online and and several other documents I found thorugh google, but I just wanted to make sure. Was worried I might screw it up so much that I would not be able to boot. bvc
I've had a few screw-ups in grub that would have made lilo give me the "li" (you're screwed)screen. Grub has always given me an error and basically said "can't do that" and allowed me to choose failsafe, another kernel, or edit the screw up, which is why I use grub, it's so much more forgiving. So if you edit the diff OS strings just don't edit all the diff linux's and you'll have something to fall back on. :)
ral
Thanks for the tip...was wary because jut yesterday I configured the displays settings wrong. RH did not have my exact monitor type in its selections of monitors so I choose an older monitor. Surprise, surprise, this older monitor had higher horizontal refresh rates than the new one we just got last week. So my monitor just would not work. Reinstalled RH and this time did all configurations manually. Had to reisntall it, luckiliy its a breeze to install.
