Guest mahiles
I'm about to purchase a controller-based modem but I just wanna check a few things 1st.. Will mandrake automatically detect that it is a 56k modem and that it uses v.92 and v.44 compression? They give windows users a driver disk just checking that linux will be ok with it as the manufacturer doesn't provide any linux support. I've even heard that it has extra features which I know linux won't be able to do but will it still be able to connect? Thanks.

Guest mahiles
Creative Modem Blaster v.92 PCI. Heres a link to the creative site about it: http://uk.europe.creative.com/estore/produ...ct.asp?prod=287 I even emailed creative on whether it would be a controller-based modem and this was their reply: Dear Sir There are two different versions of the Modem Blaster V.92 PCI, one hardware and one software. More information about these is available here: http://dmzweb4.europe.creative.com/SRVS/CG...Case=obj(13298) Alternatively you can access the page as follows: 1. Best Regards John Noone Technical Support Creative Labs Europe I definately know which model I would be buying which IS the controller-based modem. Thanks. iphitus
Have a look in Mandrakes compatibility database http://www3.mandrakelinux.com/en/hardware.php3 James
Guest mahiles
There isn't the actual model listed on Mandrake's hardware page. Theres 3 modems that are not compatible and 1 that is. Is it worth risking?!
Ixthusdan
The hardware lists are not complete. Any controller based modem will work, because it is, well, a real modem. The modems that use your cpu need a software emulator in order to be a modem. At one time, isa modems were controller based and pci were not. But that has changed. Your first thoughts are correct. Buy a controller based modem, your bios will recognize it, and so will linux.
