gmac
I'm consider buying a cheap laser printer to save money on ink. lexmark & samsung are two makes I've looked at. They seem compatable with linux. Any comments as to the best choices?
DragonMage
I think lexmark is better. Samsung is compatible in linux but compatible as in only 300 dpi compatible. Another thing is that samsung has smaller toner, so you have to change your toner more often. If you print a lot of stuff, lexmark is the way to go, I think. As always, check the specs of the printer first and see the linux compatibility. Here's a good link http://www.linuxprinting.org PS: This is a link of a cheap lexmark laser printer that is supported by linux and uses postcript instead of regular printer driver. It may be refurbished but for 140 bux plus shipping (toner included too), it's a good deal imo. http://www.softwareandstuff.com/prn_lexopt1200.html
emh
If you decide to go with a Lexmark, be sure you install the LPRng package, and select the LPRng printing system in the Mandrake Control Center. The Lexmark printers where Lexmark provides their own driver doesn't work with CUPS.
