riorama
Hello, as usual I am writing needing help from all you wonderful Mandrake experts! I work in a store that has 4 computers on a single linksys router, connected to the internet with a cable modem. The software fire wall for the linksys router has been enabled. I have loaded mdk9.0 on one of the terminals, and am attempting to set up a simple http server. Problem! The linksys is asking for a password on a big red screen when I try to connect to the apache machine IP address over the internet. How can i get this happening? I have never dealt with a router firewall, and have no idea where to begin letting this one machine have permissions that the other 3 windoze machines dont have. Any hints? Suggestions? Of course, as usual, any help will get you a fine cuban cigar, my children, and some of the cars from around the neihborhood. PS The reason I am attempting this is to bring Linux/GNU to the world of my small town. I work at a radio shack, and sell msn broadband. The demo computer out front (for customers to demo the internet on) I have converted to a linux box. It runs so smooth and strong, and I have great authority to limit the ability for users to download, change settings, or see any of the rest of the computer. I have it set with blackbox, and a menu with only netscape. So far, all the customers like its speed, and ease of use. Also I have gotten many comments about it's stability. The only thing I cant do is get the web server past the firewall. ARRRGGGHHH! Cheers ken
tyme
Is your router giving out IP's via DHCP? i.e. are you using it as a NAT (network address translation) device
DragonMage
If I remember linksys router correctly, try http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 It will go to linksys router's own web-based configuration section. Then you can play around with the setting there. Anyway, since my router is d-link, not linksys, I don't know the exact procedure (like default administrator username and password, etc) so here is the manual for a linksys router ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pdf/befsr11_befsr41ug.pdf it can help you tons.
