kde
Dear All.. I'm using mandriva 2008.0 I found some link that provide KDE 4 for Mandria 2008.0 e.g ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/4.0.0/Ma...008.0/RPMS/i586 because of internet connection reason, i can't use URPMI. I connect to internet using anoter computer in another place Is there any way to upgrade to KDE 4 without URPMI? should I download all the files and install one by one? dexter11
I wouldn't use those packages if I were you. Those are from the very first release of KDE 4 known to be buggy and unstable. Since then KDE 4.0.2 is out with hundreds of bugfixes.
kde
Yes, u r right. It is first release that usually have a lot of bug. Actually i interest with the new look of kde 4. with the new file browser. I have downloaded and tried KDE-Four-Live which use kde 4 and distribute with openSUSE.And it is impressed me. Anyway, I mean when there is release of kde e.g 4.2.0 for Mandriva should i download and install the file one by one?
dexter11
No Mandriva uses meta packages which are basically empty packages with a lot of dependencies. They are used in cases like this e.g. to install full KDE or Gnome etc desktops. The KDE 4 metapackage should be called something like task-kde4. There can be more than one. One for minimal and one for full KDE 4 installation.
