SilverSurfer60
2008.1 has worked out of the box for me by selecting the correct video adaptor during the set up. This is the first version I have not used Aussie John's method. Also with the compiling method whenever I let the compiler script change the xorg.conf I had to go in manually and delete the 'fontpath' option. This is a clean install mind you as I have never done an upgrade.
adamw
mtriley's method should have worked. did you make sure to enable the non-free repository?
xboxboy
Thanks all. I updated the kernel, but not the source or devel!!!!!! Silly me. Installed the right source and devel and it worked first time. Thank you everyone. The only issue I have is during boot in verbose mode, because I messed around, it tries to load the two nvidia modules, 76xx and 96 xx. Is there some way to remove these? Thank you everyone for persevering with me...This 3d stuff is great
xboxboy
Is there a way to stop these modules trying to load during boot?
adamw
Remove dkms-nvidia71xx . and dkms-nvidia96xx , but isn't that the driver you need?
xboxboy
I dont know....all I know is that they fail to build or load (something along those lines). Do you know where I can find the log file of the boot process?

xboxboy
I have had a look through there, but cant see anything about failing to build? Is there somewhere else that they might leave any clues or can I pause the screen during boot??? Thanks all
