Guest ctstriper
I would like to setup a central logging server using Mandriva 2K8. Is there anything in the syslog configuration file (of the server) that i have to edit to accept logs from other machines on the network? The other machines will be Windows 2K3 server and i will be using the SNARE client for windows to send the logs to the Mandriva 2K8 logging server. This is my first attempt to get Linux into our Windows based production network. My boss has agreed to allow this Linux machine as long as it works. This is a very big step for him so I would like it to go smooth. Just getting him to say the word "Linux" is a task in itself... I have a test setup with 2 windows servers and 1 mandriva server. I will test everything here first to make sure it works before i tell him that it is ready for production. Also, is there any other syslog clients that you would recommend using besides SNARE? Thank you in advance for all your help. Jeffrey Moore
ianw1974
You can just use syslog. It's just a case of configuring syslog correctly to redirect the output. Googling shows up a load of results for this. You just need to look at configuring syslog, that is all.
Guest ctstriper
all set. I added the -r option in the syslog config file then opened up port 514 UDP on the firewall. Now all my Windows machines are logging to the syslog server.
