Peter Snow
Hi, I'm trying to make Pidgin instant messaging client run automatically at start-up and was wondering how I should do this? Thanks in advance. Peter Snow
arctic
Which desktop do you use? KDE? Gnome? Other?
orts
If you are using KDe as Desktop just do this. 1. Open konsole 2. Write cd .kde/autostart 3. Still in konsole, write ln -s /usr/bin/pidgin 4. Hit enter, and now next time you log to yuor Mandriva account Pidgin should start automatically
Peter Snow
Thanks Chaps. I'm using KDE, so will give it a try later. If I don't return to this thread please assume it worked for me :) Thanks, peter
Peter Snow
I just gave it a try. I opened a console window as administrator from Mandriva Control Center and typed the above command and it said "no such file or directory". So I tried "cd .kde" and that worked but for some reason autostart doesn't work. Could it be that the directory really doesn't yet exist? If so, if I create it from the cammand line and then try your method again, should it work? If so, how do I do that please?
Peter Snow
It's ok. I've done it! I found autostart at /home/<username/.kde/Autostart/ and followed your instructions using that path instead. It works a treat. Thanks :)
