Lando Posted November 8, 2007 Report Share Posted November 8, 2007 I've installed MDV One on HD after many problems... Now it works but the internet connections are very slow ( download speed are normal ,fine..) . I 've an Adsl ethernet line . A normal modem ( not a router...) . I 've done the adsl-setup installation procedure then I do pppoe-start to start ppp . Below some informations >>> [root@localhost lando]# ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1B:FC:B5:54:F4 inet6 addr: fe80::21b:fcff:feb5:54f4/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:5092 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:3965 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:100 RX bytes:6514890 (6.2 MiB) TX bytes:529346 (516.9 KiB) Base address:0xc000 Memory:f9ec0000-f9ee0000 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:6 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:6 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:588 (588.0 B) TX bytes:588 (588.0 B) ppp0 Link encap:Point-to-Point Protocol inet addr:87.17.43.98 P-t-P:192.168.100.1 Mask:255.255.255.255 UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1492 Metric:1 RX packets:4977 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:3827 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:3 RX bytes:6376854 (6.0 MiB) TX bytes:417444 (407.6 KiB) [root@localhost lando]# cat /etc/resolv.conf # Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8) # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN nameserver 192.168.1.1 nameserver 85.37.17.10 # ppp temp entry nameserver 85.38.28.86 # ppp temp entry nameserver 85.37.17.10 # ppp temp entry nameserver 85.38.28.86 # ppp temp entry [root@localhost lando]# route Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 192.168.100.1 * 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 ppp0 default * 0.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 ppp0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ianw1974 Posted November 8, 2007 Report Share Posted November 8, 2007 Try this: dig @192.168.1.1 linux.org does it resolve? If not, then that is why your internet response is slow. Your /etc/resolv.conf has this entry, so makes me believe you're running local DNS, or, that it's misconfigured. Considering your IP range of 192.168.100.0 I would say this is the cause. ianw1974 Posted November 8, 2007 Report Share Posted November 8, 2007 If that server does not exist as a DNS server, then it will not respond to DNS queries. When you try to check it for DNS, your system will wait before it moves on to the next DNS server. And this is why I think your internet browsing is slow. I know because I've had similar when my system was configured for multiple static IP's when I'm at home or in office. So, did the command I give you reply with resolving DNS or not? Lando Posted November 8, 2007 Author Report Share Posted November 8, 2007 I've called my ISP for DNS numbers ...and thjis has solved.. I've never had this problem....shouldn't DHP do it automatically ? About your test , I'm not sure to get it .....do you mean this >>> [root@localhost lando]# dig @192.168.1.1 linux.org bash: dig: command not found Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
