So why would installing Thunderbird cause this, is Gnome more compatible with it? So what is the th trick with Build search index on the manual, why would that fail? scarecrow Posted October 26, 2007 Report Share Posted October 26, 2007 It has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with Thunderbird, or plugging your USB devices. Your system works, what isn't working is your default users desktop configuration. Most likely you applied a dodgy/buggy/broken/whatever desktop theme, but it could be other things as well. Logged as root, find the folder /home/darthcoder/.kde (change the username to what applies, and also notice the dot before "kde" - the folder is hidden, so either enable showing hidden folders in konqueror, or use midnight commander ( "mc" in a console ) which shows hidden folders by default). Then, rename that folder: mv /home/darthcoder/.kde /home/darthcoder/.kdeold Now logout, and log back in as "darthcoder". Should be a piece of cake (although your old settings, mails etc are not there, but don't worry- they aren't lost). Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
