Guest statman
Hi, I installed Mandriva 2007 to my Dell laptop with the video card Intel 945 GM. Since I could not choose this video card and other video cards for Intel did not work, I ended up with downloading the driver from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Filter_Res...&sType=prev The trouble is there is no instruction in the readme file other than login as a root and using the tar command. My question is where I should expand this file and what I should do after that (modify the conf file, etc?). I am quite new to Linux and want more information to install a driver. Could you give me advice on this issue? Thank you in advance.
daniewicz
According to the readme.txt from your link, this driver is only for: SUSE* Linux* Professional 9.2 with kernel 2.6.8-24-default SUSE* Linux* Professional 9.2 with kernel 2.6.8-24-smp SUSE* Linux* Professional 9.3 with kernel 2.6.11.4-20a-default SUSE* Linux* Professional 9.3 with kernel 2.6.11.4-20a-smp

Guest statman
Have you tried the i810 driver as show here: intellinuxgraphics.org You already have it on your system. I have tried i810 but still have a problem. My xorg.conf file is the following when I chose i810, which did not work: Identifier "device1" Vendorname "Intel Corp" Boardname "Intel 945" Driver "i810" Option "DPMS" Option "May_Need_ForceBIOS""1" Option "XaaNoffscreenPixmaps""1" I modified Boardname with "Intel 945GM" and then "Intel 945 GM", both of which did not work. When I use startx, I have the same error message. (WW) I810: No matching Device Section for instance (Bus ID PCI:0:2:1) found (EE) I810(0): No video BIOS modes for chosen depth (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration Fatal server error no screen found X10: fatal IO error 104 (connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining. Any thoughts?
Ixthusdan
The 945 is the Intel northbridge, or the chip set name. Your video section is an Intel i810. I have read that you need the latest i810 driver, which is stock with Mandriva. Perhaps your attempted screen resolution is the problem rather than the driver?
