tvlad
I downloaded the drivers from realtek, which are actually alsa 0.9.rc5, compiled them, followed the instrunctions from realtek and i got my onboard sound card working. The problem is that i have at home a 5.1 speaker system. In windows, you can select in alc's drivers to remap the microfone and line in to subwoofer and rear speakers, thus enabling me to hear on all 5.1 speakers But in linux i have no idea how to do this, and so i hear sound only from my front speakers. Any ideas ?????? Btw: i also tried with 0.9.1 final, but to no avail.
DragonMage
As far as I know, that capability is not supported as of yet.. I think only SB Live! and derivatives (such as Audigy) have the ability to have more than 2 speakers analog output. Incidentally, is your motherboard an NForce2 MB by any chance? If it is, I heard that NVIDIA is working on a driver that support SPDIF output among other things (5.1 speaker support perhaps?) but I won't hold my breath if I were you :)
