Guest bjt
Hi all.... I was hoping to get some advice from the experts because this one has got me stumped!! I had my Canon LBP3000 configured on Mandriva 2007.0 and it worked perfectly using the Linux drivers off Canons website. Just recently it started acting weird. When I turn the printer on the status moniter gives me messages like "Communication Error" or "Check the DevicePath of /etc/ccpd.conf", and I am unable to print. HOWEVER, I noticed if the printer is switched on before I power up my comp then it works and prints perfectly. Like I said this is weird, because it used to print without the condition that it be turned on before the computer is powered on. I tried re-installing drivers and reverting to older drivers but still the same issue. Hoping someone knows a way around this. Thanks!! scarecrow
Sounds like an udev/hal issue. What happens if you turn the printer on, fail to print and then run in a root console /etc/init.d/hal restart Does it see the printer now? Guest bjt
Hi scarecrow, Ran your code but get "bash: /etc/init.d/hal: No such file or directory" Alternatively, I am able to run.... /etc/init.d/ccpd restart ...but the printer is still not detected
scarecrow
Not running Mandriva right now, so I just guessed hal daemon is in there. Maybe it's "hald" and not "hal" ? Anyway, you can open "mcc" as root, go to the services menu, and restart hal (described as hardware abstraction layer) from there. If, for some reason, hal is not running at startup, it HAS to be enabled - else no USB device will be detected when plugged in. Guest bjt
In short my other usb devices are detected when they are plugged in - thumb drive, ipod etc. I managed to find what you were talking about in the mcc menu as "haldaemon". It was already running and set to start at boot. Restarted it but didnt fix the problem. Thanks anyway.

Guest bjt
Looks like a re-install for me lol
scarecrow
Looks like a re-install for me lol What for? You are under Linux, not windows... reinstalling won't help at all. Have you tried the drivers from Canon site? http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010176.asp Or probably- a newer driver from the Japanese Canon site: http://cweb.canon.jp/drv-upd/lasershot/drv_linux.html Both need ghostscript installed to operate properly. Guest bjt
Thanks for the links. I've tried out almost all the versions of the CAPT driver but still the same problem. On the Japanese website there is a LIPS driver (whatever that means) that I havnt come across before. I will give that a try. Will keep you posted!!
