Cannonfodder
Try opening a terminal and type harddrake2 or run the Mandrake Control Center and select Setting up Hardware. See if it picks up the cam..
mtweidmann
It depends on what type of device it is really, eg whether its USB and what refrence design it uses. Assuming it is USB and supported by Linux, then it should just be a matter of plugging it in. Try connecting the camera, waiting a few seconds, then running Mandrake Control Centre. Take a look in the hardware tab and see if its listed. If so it should also give you a device, something like /dev/video0. To test it open up a terminal and type "xawtv /dev/video0" (or whatever your camera was).
