Hi,

I am a newbie to linux... I installed it yesterday and am really enjoying it. I am running off an older Dell laptop, but everything is working well. One problem... I cant connect to the internet. I use a speedstream 1021 networking card and Mandriva doesnt reconize it. It asks for a driver with a ndiswrapper. I cant do that because the driver is located inside of an .exe file. I have burn many disks of software and none of them were succesful. I have pcmcia-cs ready to go, but I dont know what to do with it. I also have cabextract burnt to disk, but I couldn't figure out how to use it. Any suggestions would be great. Please try to be clear and don't go code monkey. Thanks.

We need some more info about your system before we can help you.

Open your konsole by going to System > Terminals > Konsole. Type in the terminal:

lspcidrake

hit enter, and post the output here.

The card was plugged in. . .

I have to go to my brothers play now, but I will be back tommarow.

Tommarow, I will be able to devote more time in to getting it to work.

Also, if you would like to post a card that works (aka plug and play) with linux I will make a purchase.

I really don't want to reinstall Windows so I will do everything in my power to get Linux to work.

Thanks, I hope to talk to you tommarow!

The distro I am using is Mandriva One (Gnome), by the way.

I'm not sure if that's a prism chipset or an acx100? So I need you to remove the card, open a terminal:

su

enter your password, then

tail -f /var/log/messages

insert your card. Now post the output that happens after you insert the card. You can stop it with Ctrl + c

Or should I keep trying to make it work?

You should be able to make it work.

You are going to have to find, d/l and install pcmciautils-014-3mdv2007.0 on your system. (use google) I understand that you don't have an internet connection, so you will have to use a flash drive or something to transfer it to your laptop. Then as root install it with 'rpm -i package-name' (replace package-name with the real name of the rpm you d/l).

then with the card in, give me the output of:

pccardctl ident

Okay, I will burn it to a disc and install it. I understand that, but I am a little confuzed about installing. Do I double click on the rpm file to install it the way I would do in Windows? Or is it more complicated? If you could just elaborate a little on installin I would be greatful. Once again, thanks.
