  1. I am getting a Netgear WG511 V.2 54Mbps Wireless PC Card 32-bit Cardbus for wireless networking. It is on the ndiswrapper list of compatible cards. Is the preinstalled version of ndiswrapper okay? Does it work right? Do I need to reinstall ndiswrapper if I am currently using Mandriva One Spring? If so how do I do that?
  2. Do you need to reinstall ndiswrapper if you are using Mandriva One Spring? Or is the shipped version okay?
  3. Okay, thanks Greg. I am going to buy a Netgear WG511 V.2 54Mbps Wireless PC Card 32-bit Cardbus. It is on the list of ndiswrapper compatible cards and should be pretty plug and play. The list says it is compatible with the inf file on the windows install cd. If I have problems with it than I will create a new topic and post my questions to it.
  4. I found the driver for my card. It simply doesn't work with ndiswrapper. I am buying a card that does work (some netgear card). Once I get a new pc card it should work out of the box with the windows inf file. Thanks for your help, but I think I am going to take the easy way out.
  5. Well, my card is always lit up. It has two lights on it. . . one titled "Power" and one titled "Link." Both of these were lit up before I put in the command. Once I put it in the two lights stayed lit up. I got no output inside my terminal either. I think we have a couple of main problems: 1. The windows driver for my wireless card is buried inside an exe (windows). 2. I have no idea how to work with the kernel or install software from source. (AKA ndiswrapper, pcmcia_cs) 3. Obviously, there is no linux native driver for my card. PS. Are there wireless cards with native linux drivers? Just wondering if they exist. Thanks for all the help your giving me.
  6. I typed them both in logged in as a simple user ("Josh") and as root. I got no responce. . . as "Josh" I got bash: lsmod: command not found and as root I got no output at all.
  7. Okay, I installed it and ran the command you told me to. Here is the output: Socket 1: product info: "Siemens", "SpeedStream Wireless PCMCIA", "", "" manfid: 0x02ac, 0x3021 function: 6 (network) There you go.
  8. okay thx...ill do it wicked soon
  9. I dont have it on the install dvd, by the way.
  10. Okay, I will burn it to a disc and install it. I understand that, but I am a little confuzed about installing. Do I double click on the rpm file to install it the way I would do in Windows? Or is it more complicated? If you could just elaborate a little on installin I would be greatful. Once again, thanks.
  11. If i go to configured hardware in the control center, the pcmcia card is listed under unknown. Should I just buy a compatible card? Any suggestions on which to buy? Or should I keep trying to make it work? Thx
  12. I recieved this message after logging in as root and entering the command: localhost kernel: pccard: PCMIA card inserted into slot 1 localhost kernel: pcmcia: registering new device pcmcia1.0 There you go.
  13. The card was plugged in. . . I have to go to my brothers play now, but I will be back tommarow. Tommarow, I will be able to devote more time in to getting it to work. Also, if you would like to post a card that works (aka plug and play) with linux I will make a purchase. I really don't want to reinstall Windows so I will do everything in my power to get Linux to work. Thanks, I hope to talk to you tommarow! The distro I am using is Mandriva One (Gnome), by the way.

  15. Hi, I am a newbie to linux... I installed it yesterday and am really enjoying it. I am running off an older Dell laptop, but everything is working well. One problem... I cant connect to the internet. I use a speedstream 1021 networking card and Mandriva doesnt reconize it. It asks for a driver with a ndiswrapper. I cant do that because the driver is located inside of an .exe file. I have burn many disks of software and none of them were succesful. I have pcmcia-cs ready to go, but I dont know what to do with it. I also have cabextract burnt to disk, but I couldn't figure out how to use it. Any suggestions would be great. Please try to be clear and don't go code monkey. Thanks. [moved from Software by spinynorman - welcome aboard :)]
