Patkos Csaba
Yesterday I did some upgrades to my Mandriva 2007.0 powerpack box. I do it every saturday. So, the updates were basicly some kde & qt security updates, some xine updates, and a couple of other libraries I can't remember. This morning after I started my pc, Opera refuses to start with "Segmentation Fault" error. Opera is version 9.10 (latest available - installed from rpm, updated constantly). It was working perfect till yesterday evening. I tried whatever fixes I found on the internet, I removed ~/.opera folder, removed all plugins, reinstalled again from rpm (with --force option) .... still not working. Please tell me if you have any ideas about this error and possible solutions. I'm really dependent on Opera. Thanks.

Mhn
why do you run it as root? could be because of that...
ppcrulez
Check this thread for help: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtop...27&hl=opera or just download this weekly build: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2007/04/06/hotfix Edited April 8, 2007 by ppcrulez
Patkos Csaba
It was just a root shell. The problem is the same for any user. ================ SOLVED ================ The latest HotFix work OK. Thank you very much.
scarecrow
It is a problem with the latest libx11 incarnation. One solution is using the latest opera-devel (version 936), and another one is rolling your libx11 version back. Both should work, but I do think that my browsers tend to crash frequently after the libx11 update, so it may not be just Opera (which were obviously affected: not starting at all!). ffi
For the record opera released 3! hotfixes this easter weekend (build 633, 635 and the latest 636) and maybe more will follow, so if you are still having troubles check: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/ to see if a new hotfix has been released. scarecrow
Revision 636 is reasonably stable, but Firefox (which starts normally) freezes quite often now. I guess the xorg guys need to checkout their latest libX11 thingy... Edited April 9, 2007 by scarecrow
Patkos Csaba
I was useing Firefox when my Opera was down (for almost a hole day) and I had absolutly no problems whit it. I am useing now Opera revision 633 and it is stable, however it is considerably slower than before. I'll try 636 soon. [EDIT]: After a quick download and install of revision 636, Opera is fast again.
