i don't know why but i think my linux hates me !!!!!!!

i can't install nothing on it

I try to install Skype and i get this error

[root@localhost Java]# rpm -U skype-1.3.0.53-1mdk.i586.rpm
warning: skype-1.3.0.53-1mdk.i586.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID d66b746e
error: Failed dependencies:
	libXss.so.1 is needed by skype-1.3.0.53-1mdk.i586
[root@localhost Java]#

the thing is that i tried to install the Easy-Urpmi / the lib64xorg

i have no idea what is the problem

Then i tried to install Java for developing and i could only install the JDK / JRE but i can't get the Eclipse to work

i get this error if i don't put the jdk inside eclipse folder even that i've installed the folder in te PATH (mine and root's)

Error 1: if the JDk folder

A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK)
must be available in order to run Eclipse. No Java virtual machine
was found after searching the following locations:
/home/nimrod/eclipse/jre/bin/java
'java' in your current PATH

Error 2: if the jre is inside the eclipse folder and i see the splash screen before

An error has occurred. See the log file
/home/nimrod/workspace/.metadata/.log.

but there is no log file !!!! :wall:

Thanks,

Nimrod

Did you run from a terminal

urpmi libxscrnsaver

as root already? It should install the file you need for running skype.

About the log-file, check again and don't forget that it might be "invisible" because it is stored in a hidden folder. Either activate hidden folder-view in your filemanager or run from a terminal

ls -a /home/nimrod/workspace/.metadata/

in order to check if it is there.

If there's no package available, sounds like you need to set up your easyurpmi repositories clicking the link at the top of this page and add main/contrib/updates/plf-free/plf-nonfree.

If you are using Mandriva 2007 then you can save a lot of urpmi setting up by first Opening MCC.........Select from where software packages are downloaded when updating the system. Click on the ADD tab and it will ask you whether you want ..Official Updates or Distribution Sources. Select the Distribution Sources by clicking on it and let the system run its course. When it completes you will have Main, MainUpdates, Contribs and Contribs Updates setup in MCC. then just go to the install packages section of MCC and select and install what you want. You will need to do the easy-urpmi process to set up for PLF-free and PLF-nonfree however.

Cheers. John

The package(s) are already installed
The following package names were assumed: libxscrnsa

[nimrod@localhost tmp]$ rpm -U skype-1.3.0.53-1mdk.i586.rpm
warning: skype-1.3.0.53-1mdk.i586.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID d66b746e
error: Failed dependencies:
	libXss.so.1 is needed by skype-1.3.0.53-1mdk.i586

do i need to run the install as root ? or can i install it as user ?

and

You will need to do the easy-urpmi process to set up for PLF-free and PLF-nonfree however

[nimrod@localhost tmp]$ rpm -U skype-1.3.0.53-1mdk.i586.rpm

rpm will not resolve dependencies. use urpmi instead:

urpmi skype-1.3.0.53-1mdk.i586.rpm

If there are dependency problems urpmi should resolve them. If urpmi fails please post it's output. And yes, to install anything you must be logged in as root. Simply issue the command su and enter your root password, then type the command above.
