Kieth
Just a silly curiosity question. I'll go into MCC and do updates, but then I noticed that frequently in terminal, when I use --auto select, there are files to be installed that were not listed in MCC (updates). Why? ianw1974
Because updates uses an additional flag --update which uses only the update media. This means only updates are applied, and not normal packages which aren't part of updates.
neddie
So in other words, the packages that aren't listed in mcc aren't "updates", but are required by one of the "updates". If you selected all the updates in mcc and installed them, it would also pull in those dependencies too.
Kieth
OK, thanks. I understand now.
ianw1974
Sometimes a package can exist in main and contrib, for example, that got updated. But applying updates doesn't necessarily pull this package. But using the command line like you did with --auto-select, it found updated packages in other repositories and installed these accordingly.
