ffi
Welcome to MUB, this sounds like a video card issue, which card and which drivers are you using and do you use compiz with xgl or aiglx?
nadavvin
I have geforce 2 I've use the nvidia driver which come with the ONE installation. I don't use XGL since the card is very old.
scarecrow
You can try the nvidia-legacy 7184 driver from PLF (it's in the non-free repo)- should work faster than the xorg "nv" driver. The printer problem might be that a wrong backend is picked. Is the gutenprint package installed (...and anyway, which printer is that one)? scarecrow
Both? It's just one driver... the nvidia-dkms package is for autoupdating the nvidia modules every time you install a new kernel, and these modules need rebuilding. If you have set PLF as repo ( both the free and non-free departments), then first drop X from a root console: telinit 3 Logon again as root, and remove the regular 8774 driver- it won't work with your old card: urpme nvidia dkms-nvidia ...and then install the right one (: urpmi nvidia_legacy dkms-nvidia_legacy (the devel package is needed only if you want to compile some application using openGL elements). After doing that you are OK, although your /etc/X11/xorg.conf may need a couple of simple modifications. As for the printer, I'm not so knowlwdgeable about HP hardware (I avoid their products like the plague, as their customer support here is terrible at the very best...), but I think you need to install the "hplip" package: http://hplip.sourceforge.net/ (should also be packed as a Mandriva binary, anyway) Edited October 28, 2006 by scarecrow
nadavvin
I search with urpmf for es1371 and I found it in a newer kernel. I print in the end: Preloading capability security module, if you want to activate realtime capabilities comment out/delete the line containing capability and add on a new line "realtime", and adjust the realtime module options in /etc/modprobe.conf. What it's mean and what should I do or not? I go now to check nvidia.
nadavvin
Now Nvida doesn't work at all!!! I use the nv driver. but in the init 5 I have somwhere in the end: nvidia (8774): Already installed on this kernel. nvidia_legacy (7184-4plf2007.0): Already installed on this kernel. But X faild and print that it can't load nvidia since it's not found. I also change the xorg.conf nvidia driver to nvidia_legacy but I got the same. I didn't get any errors that I load them with modprobe /sbin/lsmod|grep nv give nothing. $ sudo find /lib/|grep nvidia /lib/modules/2.6.17.13-mm-desktop-3mdv/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia /lib/modules/2.6.17.13-mm-desktop-3mdv/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia/nvidiafb.ko.gz /lib/modules/2.6.17.13-mm-desktop-3mdv/kernel/drivers/char/agp/nvidia-agp.ko.gz /lib/modules/2.6.17-5mdvlegacy/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia /lib/modules/2.6.17-5mdvlegacy/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia/nvidiafb.ko.gz /lib/modules/2.6.17-5mdvlegacy/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko.gz /lib/modules/2.6.17-5mdvlegacy/kernel/drivers/char/agp/nvidia-agp.ko.gz /lib/modules/2.6.17-5mdvlegacy/kernel/drivers/char/drm/nvidia.ko.gz /lib/modules/2.6.17-5mdvlegacy/kernel/drivers/char/drm/nvidia_legacy.ko.gz all the check perfom on the two kernels. nadavvin
Should I open a bug on the legacy drivers in mandriva?
scarecrow
Should I open a bug on the legacy drivers in mandriva? No... just try (provided that the PLF repos, free and non-free are set, using easyurpmi): urpmi ttf-ms-fonts After that, just proceed...
