coverup
Try booting with kernel options noapic, nolapic. Open the Mandrake control center, go to the boot menu and toggle the apic/lapic checkboxes.
c-clone
I had similar problem when I shifted to 10.1. For my pc I had to enable acpi to get my pc to power off after shut down. You can try this via MCC, then boot and tick the enable acpi check box.
emmanuel_uk
had same problem when compiling my own kernel. see with lsmod if the module apm is loaded otherwise load it with modprobe apm most likely something to do with acpi or apm anotherway to find out is using live distros of all sort and see which one shut down ok and look at the kernel modules with modinfo
Lando
coverup suggestion seems has worked fine ! I'ven't apm then I should do modprobe apm....but I'm not too expert and I wouldn't do something that I could not control... Thanks for your helps.
