Guest SDMF
In lieu of there being no file send support yet in gaim, I have created a share directory in apache that I will move files to when I want a friend to get them. I got a directory set up in the httpd.conf file, and it is working just fine, but for the link to work there has to be a / on the end of the URL. This is just a pet peeve, if there is some way to make it so that the / is not needed, I would like to do that. If not, it's not a big deal. paul
I haven't found a way around it yet :-( .. and it seems to be a mandrake only problem
qnr
Visit this part of the FAQ Why does accessing directories only work when I include the trailing "/"?
Guest SDMF
Hmmm. I tried using an alias, that did not work. I am not sure how I would phrase the ServerName statement. I have a dyndns.org account that I have mapped to my IP. I don't see how the ServerName statement would enable what I want to do, though. qnr
Here is how I set mine, even though it's going to http://linux.aliboom.com:8000/: sh-2.05b$ cat /etc/httpd/httpd.conf | grep ServerName | grep aliboom ServerName http://linux.aliboom.com/ So I would imagine that you'd put in the ServerName however people would access your website using dyndns. If that doesn't work, then you'd use your IP address ... for me: ServerName http://67.118.50.181/
Guest SDMF
Oh, so I just put the dyndns server name there, and it takes care of that kind of stuff for any and all directories?
qnr
in the sense of how people access your files via dyndns... you don't want to put the actual dyndns server name in there, of course.
MottS
What about using AMSN to talk to your MSN friends and LICQ to talk to your ICQ friends ? They both support file transfer BTW. If you are using something else (Yahoo, ..) then I'm pretty sure you can find a client supporting file transfer. Just an idea.. Guest SDMF
Not sure I get what you mean by "in the sens of how people access files". I just have it in a directory called share. So, the URL would be in the format http://accountname.dyndns.org/share/ I just want it to be accessible without the last /

I'd considered that, but that would only take care of a couple people. At any rate, this works fine as it is, it's just a pet peeve, having that extra "/" there. MottS
So what r u using?
Guest SDMF
Using gaim 0.60, with an AIM account. File transfer is supposed to be fully suppoert by the final release, right now you can only receive files.
qnr
Under ServerName, you don't worry about the directories. ServerName http://accountname.dyndns.org/ should work. I don't really know how dyndns works, in my case, I've paid for the domain name and I just tell the nameservers where to locate my files (a few different websites, this machine, etc.). That's why I mentioned you might try the actual IP address too. But I'm only going from what I've read in the docs. I really don't know. I'm still trying to figure out why my router will forward port 8000 but not port

Sourceforge and Freshmeat does not give any client supporting file transfer? ... that's sad Change of protocol man .. :) MOttS
Guest SDMF
Tried both the URL to my IP, the IP itself, and the IP with port number. None of them worked. The URL in the address bar changes to http://hangar18.localdomain/share (hangar18 being my hostname) when the "/" is not appended. Should the ServerName statement be used in conjuntion with an Alias?
