Guest Gary Barker
Since MCC would not install the device properly (it just reverts back to the last screen with no error message after selecting the driver), I looked in the messages file to discover that it failed to find the firmware file (atmel_at76c505-rfmd2958.bin) and suggests the places where it may be downloaded. After downloading the file and using the script to install the firmware there was an error message indicating that there was no firmware.agent file. It appears that the update to the hotplug rpm had omitted this file whereas it was included in the Mandrake 10.1 version. Everything worked fine after installing this file from the Sourceforge hotplug site. If we are to encourage more people to switch over from Windows, more care needs to be taken in checking package accuracy before releasing them. Also I would recommend enhancing MCC so that an error produces a message screen with a suggested solution or at least an excerpt from the messages file or error log.
