Trouble with drakconnect [solved]

Greetings there,

i used drakconnect to config my broadband connection...

in the page where it asks for localhost/dns 1/dns 2/dns 3/search domain and default gateway...

when i press the next, it prompts me to enter the dns values in 1.2.3.4 format..

beleive me, i am writing the dns values in the same format..

only when i remove the dns 2 value, it allows me to proceed...

what could be the problem there...?

 

i have not tried that connection yet.. but could there be any adverse effects on my connection due to a missing dns entry?

Nope, no adverse effects. I'm wondering what you're typing into each value though since it's not posted above.

 

You only really need one DNS server. If this is unavailable, then you'd have problems. Multiple entries means if one fails, you've got another to fall back on.

Hello there,

 

Well trust me i am entering the correct 1.2.3.4 format value... the same thing happened at a friends's place...

There also just removing the third dns entry allowed to move to the next screen!

What's the current contents of your /etc/resolv.conf? And are you using static or dhcp ip address?

I would ignore the GUI wizard, and just edit /etc/resolv.conf manually. Post what yours currently says if anything? If nothing, do this:

 

nameserver 192.168.1.1
nameserver second ip here
nameserver third ip here

 

like from your screenshot addresses. Then forget about using the gui, cos it should work.

Hm. The entries look good - at first. :-)

 

Besides of an error elsewhere, I could only think of the following:

 

a) There's a comma instead of a period within some entry (which may not stand out in the pic you sent, and can also be hard to detect even in the interface).

 

b) There's a trailing space character following one of the last digits.

 

 

Can you leave out the second DNS entry but use the third one (should work, too)?

 

(You should also use a "real" hostname.)

That was the cause of the problem!,yes a trailing blank space at the end.

Though thanks to ian too for a sure shot fix thru cli

 

I guess i'll check twice now when i say the following:
