  1. Hi ian, It has the entry as follows: nameserver <IP Address> I changed the address manually and restarted /etc/init.d/network but my changes were overwritten, so still no success! rohit.
  2. Hi ian, I tried it all on my system, but nothing seems to work! rohit.
  3. Hi ian, Well all that is done and checked. To my(and all) surprise, the network icon is showing connected now, but the problem now is no web browser is able to open up any website, although I can ping the linux box from another system and the other way round too... I can also ping my ISP gateway successfully. I tried firefox, konqueror, flock, opera and lynx. None of them are able to connect to any website! pleae help! rohit. :unsure:
  4. Hi, here are the different outputs: [root@mandrivabox network-scripts]# pwd /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts [root@mandrivabox network-scripts]# ls cellular.d/ ifdown-post* ifup.d/ ifup-sit* hostname.d/ ifdown-ppp* ifup-eth* ifup-sl* ifcfg-eth0* ifdown-routes* ifup-ipv6* ifup-tunnel* ifcfg-lo@ ifdown-sit* ifup-ipx* ifup-wireless* ifdown@ ifdown-sl* ifup-plip* init.ipv6-global* ifdown-bnep* ifdown-tunnel* ifup-plusb* network-functions ifdown.d/ ifup@ ifup-post* network-functions-ipv6 ifdown-eth* ifup-aliases* ifup-ppp* vpn.d/ ifdown-ipv6* ifup-bnep* ifup-routes* wireless.d/ [root@mandrivabox network-scripts]# [root@mandrivabox home]# ifup eth0 [root@mandrivabox home]# ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:D1:B3:4C:66 inet addr: Bcast: Mask: UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b) Interrupt:17 Base address:0xa000 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr: Mask: inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:739 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:739 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:58061 (56.7 KiB) TX bytes:58061 (56.7 KiB) [root@mandrivabox home]# ifconfig [root@mandrivabox home]# ping PING ( 56(84) bytes of data. I had to do an ifup eth0 from console. Any thing on the DCOP server? Should I look at it at all? thanks, rohit.
  5. Hi, First a bit of history: I have been for past couple of days trying to configure VPN client to work at home system. No success has been achieved on that front. So today, I wanted to remove those VPN network interfaces. I had three of them (in order from latest to oldest): ppp0,tun0,eth0. So first I stumbled across not finding a GUI to delete them, a quick google revealed: drakconnect --delete So I removed only the ppp0 interface. I rebooted, still the default interface was getting selected as tun0,previously ppp0 was selected. I manually selected eth0, the graphical icon showed that connection was successful :-) But a ping to the router resulted in an answer from the host itself. :huh: I pinged and got response from, indicating some network error in the ping result. So I deleted the tun0 interface! Then I rebooted and saw problems relating to 1)DCOP server not being started(or not being readable) 2)Configuration files kfmclientrc and kdeglobals not writable These error screen came when I clicked the help option of the network icon(with a green tick or orange exclamation). Please help/suggest me what next to do :unsure: thanks, rohit.
  6. Hi, Thanks to needie and scarecrow It was the fat32 partition that caused all this trouble. I shifted my codebase to an ext3 partition and it worked great! :P Thanks a ton to both of you for pointing this out! :D rohit.
  7. Hi, yes the dir is a FAT32 filesystem. here's the output: [rkumar@localhost oawclassic.generatorwc.project]$ locale -a C CP1251 en en_AU en_AU.ISO-8859-1 en_AU.UTF-8 en_BE en_BE.ISO-8859-1 en_BE.ISO-8859-15 en_BE.UTF-8 en_BW en_BW.ISO-8859-1 en_BW.UTF-8 en_CA en_CA.ISO-8859-1 en_CA.UTF-8 en_DK en_DK.ISO-8859-1 en_DK.UTF-8 en_GB en_GB.ISO-8859-1 en_GB.UTF-8 en_HK en_HK.ISO-8859-1 en_HK.UTF-8 en_IE en_IE.ISO-8859-1 en_IE.ISO-8859-15 en_IE.UTF-8 en_IN en_IN.UTF-8 en_NG en_NG.UTF-8 en_NZ en_NZ.ISO-8859-1 en_NZ.UTF-8 en_PH en_PH.ISO-8859-1 en_PH.UTF-8 en_SG en_SG.ISO-8859-1 en_SG.UTF-8 en_US en_US.ISO-8859-1 en_US.UTF-8 en_ZA en_ZA.ISO-8859-1 en_ZA.UTF-8 en_ZW en_ZW.ISO-8859-1 en_ZW.UTF-8 hi hi_IN hi_IN.UTF-8 ISO-8859-1 ISO-8859-13 ISO-8859-14 ISO-8859-15 ISO-8859-2 ISO-8859-3 ISO-8859-4 ISO-8859-5 ISO-8859-7 ISO-8859-9 KOI8-R KOI8-U POSIX UTF-8 [rkumar@localhost oawclassic.generatorwc.project]$ Could it be that some linux process is watching over this directory? Thus not allowing the rename to happen. thanks, rohit.
  8. Hi, Here's the output: [rkumar@localhost oawclassic.generatorwc.project]$ mv meta-inf META-INF mv: cannot move `meta-inf' to `META-INF': File exists [rkumar@localhost oawclassic.generatorwc.project]$ No success still ! thanks, rohit.
  9. Hi, I am experiencing a strange behaviour. I am unable to rename a directory to its all caps equivalent. Here's the output: [rkumar@localhost oawclassic.generatorwc.project]$ ls build.properties* meta-inf/ model/ oaw/ pom.xml* src/ target/ todo.txt* [rkumar@localhost oawclassic.generatorwc.project]$ mv meta-inf/ META-INF mv: cannot move `meta-inf/' to `META-INF': File exists [rkumar@localhost oawclassic.generatorwc.project]$ ls META-INF ls: cannot access META-INF: No such file or directory [rkumar@localhost oawclassic.generatorwc.project]$ Ok if this was not strange, see this: [rkumar@localhost oawclassic.generatorwc.project]$ rename meta-inf/ META-INF [rkumar@localhost oawclassic.generatorwc.project]$ ls build.properties* meta-inf/ model/ oaw/ pom.xml* src/ target/ todo.txt* [rkumar@localhost oawclassic.generatorwc.project]$ The rename seems to be successful, but still i am not able to see the all caps renamed file! :unsure: Please suggest how to achieve what i want to do! Thanks, rohit.
  10. Hi, Yes my urpmi sources were not setup at all. I apologize for such negligence. Thanks a lot for the help. rohit.
  11. Hi, I did check out the --whatrequires and --whatprovides option of the rpm command, but to my dismay, no success :huh: [root@localhost rkumar]# rpm -q --whatprovides libstdc++5 no package provides libstdc++5 [root@localhost rkumar]# rpm -q --whatrequires libstdc++5 no package requires libstdc++5 [root@localhost rkumar]# Also i checked out MCC for the "listdc" package, it shows libstdc++6 as the only matching result found. I do not have the equivalent "-devel" packages installed. Should i install them? Thanks, rohit.
  12. Hi, I did the same, i got the following output: [root@localhost rkumar]# urpmi libstdc++5 No package named libstdc++5 [root@localhost rkumar]# Thanks, rohit.
  13. Greetings there, I just downloaded flock. I tried to start it and i got the following error: [root@localhost flock]# ./flock ./flock-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory [root@localhost flock]# Also i checked whether i have libstdc++ or not, [root@localhost flock]# urpmi libstdc No package named libstdc The following packages contain libstdc: libstdc++-devel libstdc++6 [root@localhost flock]# urpmi libstdc++6 Package libstdc++6-4.2.2-0.RC.1mdv2008.0.i586 is already installed [root@localhost flock]# Please tell me what next to do. Thanks, rohit. [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  14. Hi, Yes, it was compiled into the kernel and placed automatically there. It's all normal, it worked flawlessly in the mandriva 2007(free) version. :-) Thanks, rohit.
  15. Hi, the module seems to be there: [root@localhost CiscoVPN]# pwd /lib/modules/ [root@localhost CiscoVPN]# find /lib/ -name cisco_ipsec* /lib/modules/ [root@localhost CiscoVPN]# Also while searching over the net i came across this I hope someone might have come across such a problem on mandriva or maybe this has already been taken care of. I have not tried it on my system as of now. Thanks, rohit.
