rakavka
Hi there, I'm a newbie. Have just installed mandriva 2006. HP USB keyboard (model 5302H) worked fine during the installation, but after rebooting it stopped responding(num is on).I plugged PS2 , went to hardware, plugged&unplagged USB and suddenly it worked. After another reboot ,again , the keyboard stopped responding. I can't remember what I did :). In Lilo window - keyboard responds. USB mouse works perfectly. In knoppix 3. keyboard worked. In 4. same problem. Thanks a lot.

rakavka
Oki I will give you more info. There are 2 additional usb plugs in the keyboard... While the booting, I didn't see any entry of USB devices Also I got “... kernel source 2.16.. ..mdk cannot install this model..” duiring the boot. From this post (http://forum.mandrivaclub.com/viewtopic.php?t=47570) I read about commands: #dmesg|grep usb # lsmod|grep usb # cat /var/log/messages|grep usb|tail -n 25 So here they are : 1: usbcore: registered new driver usbfsusbcore: registered new driver hub usb 1-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 usbcore: registered new driver hiddev input: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse] on usb-0000:00:1d.0-1 usbcore: registered new driver usbhid drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: v2.01:USB HID core driver usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 usb 3-2.1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3 input: USB HID v1.00 Keyboard [HP Multimedia Keyboard Hub] on usb-0000:00:1d.2-2.1 input,hiddev0: USB HID v1.00 Device [HP Multimedia Keyboard Hub] on usb-0000:00:1d.2-2.1 usbcore: registered new driver xpad drivers/usb/input/xpad-core.c: driver for Xbox controllers with mouse emulation v0.1.4 usbcore: registered new driver usbmouse drivers/usb/input/usbmouse.c: v1.6:USB HID Boot Protocol mouse driver usbcore: registered new driver usbkbd drivers/usb/input/usbkbd.c: :USB HID Boot Protocol keyboard driver 2. usbkbd 5760 0usbmouse 4160 0 usbhid 44352 0 usbcore 108156 7 usbkbd,usbmouse,xpad,usbhid,ehci_hcd,uhci_hcd 3. ianw1974
Look for a service called "numlock" or I think that's what it's called, and disable this and see if it gets any better for you. Or, if that doesn't work, go into the BIOS on your machine, and look for the USB LEGACY option and see if this is enabled or disabled. Change it to another option, and then see if that helps get you working. Just make sure you have a PS/2 keyboard around or a connector from USB --> PS/2 in case your keyboard stops working completely with the USB LEGACY setting change. If not, don't change this, else you might not get back into the BIOS.
rakavka
2 ianw1974 When I disable the USB legacy, usb keyboard stop working in Lilo and when linux is up, the num is again on and no response. USB mouse is working. When I diabled the numlock (in KDE control module) and rebooted , on USB num is on, on PS/2 num is off :) I don't know if there is a connection, but when I plug my GPT USB webcam, there is no power supply .(green led is off) Edited August 2, 2006 by rakavka
ianw1974
How many usb ports have you got? Just wondering if the one you are using is dead and not working for some reason. Are the usb ports usb1.1 or usb2.0?
