scarecrow
Is there other software which can do this? Yes indeed- but then none has the flexibility and wide range of usage of mc. Since mc is first and foremost a console app, preferring doing "sudo vi foo" or "sudo nano foo" over it is a wee bit masochistic- isn't it? tyme
su nano -w /file/you/want is easier than: su mc [look for file/highlight file, ALT+4 to edit] and if you have sudo set up, then: sudo nano -w /file/you/want is even easier! IMHO, anyways ;) for the question of rpm extraction, simply use rpm2cpio.
Helmut
For children (My offspring are not kids =baby goats, but rather children!) I would deffintely include the kde edu packackage. See the edu-kde page for details. I really like mc, because it can be invaluable. In certain situations it may be the last tool you can resort to for rescueing data out of a totally defect system. Crashdamage
Midnight Commander is the best thing since toilet paper. More useful than duct tape. I'd rather do without Mutt than MC, and that's going a ways... Edited July 15, 2006 by Crashdamage
