scarecrow
To cut a potentially long story short: http://www.turboprint.info/ And yes, I do know that this isn't a free driver, but you'd rather blame Canon which does not issue free drivers for their printers. Personally I didn't hesitate too much to buy a license for my Pixma i5000, but for cheap printers this driver is surely somewhat expensive... The choice is yours- there is no free alternative, AFAIK, and the Turboprint demo is easy to install and configure, fully functional with no time limitations, but all high print resolutions are watermarked. Just try the demo, and if it fills your needs, then you can think if the driver is worth the extra cost...
spinynorman
Welcome aboard. :) According to www.sane-project.org, your scanner is supported. The sane-backends package containing the drivers, has been installed by default on my system. If you select the 'main' source, or your installation CDs, in the Mandriva Control Centre, and check for packages to install with 'sane' in the name, you will get a selection of frontends to choose from. I probably can't help you much more, as I don't have a scanner to practise on.
Guest sdrambo
Canon does supply Linux drivers. Try here. http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0022414.asp?model=
theYinYeti
You might find this usefull if you want to use CANON's driver: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=42851 For Mandriva, you won't have to use "alien" to change rpm into deb files; just use the rpm files :) For your printer however, it seems there's a better driver: http://www.openprinting.org/show_printer.c...on-PIXMA_iP1000 Yves. scarecrow
For your printer however, it seems there's a better driver:http://www.openprinting.org/show_printer.c...on-PIXMA_iP1000Yves. Err... sorry, but did you check there? The only useful info in there is that the Canon drivers do not work (which is certainly true!) but the link for the "working" drivers they give (probably targetting the unofficial Canon drivers from their Japanese FTP, which work pretty randomly) opens a mildly spamming Ubuntu blog, which holds no info about those magic drivers... ;)
theYinYeti
Ooops, sorry, I didn't check. I assumed openprinting.org was a reliable site; it seems it is not that much after all. Yves.
