flarefox
I updated my hardware from 32 to 64 bit and now mandriva won't download or install a 64 bit kernel. It says they are all already installed. What gives?
polemicz
You have to install the whole 64 bit system (apps, libraries, etc), not just a kernel.
flarefox
You have to install the whole 64 bit system (apps, libraries, etc), not just a kernel. How do I do that? I can't use the install cd because they use virtual in their xorg configuration. It needs modes instead of virtual in the screen size subsection. Instead, I have to use urpmi, but I don't know how... arctic
Sorry, but the only way is a clean install in this case as ALL packages have to be compiled against the 64 bit kernel and processor. You simply cannot upgrade with urpmi a machine from 32 to 64 bit, nor with any other package manager afaik. Download the 64 bit isos and start from scratch or stick to the 32 bit system. scarecrow
Better stay where you are. You won't gain *much* by using a 64-bit system, and some things (like Flash) will not work in 64-bit OS. Surely enough 64-bit systems are the future, but IMO not the present yet. There's no 64-bit flash yet? That's weird. Thanks for the info! Sorry, but the only way is a clean install in this case as ALL packages have to be compiled against the 64 bit kernel and processor. Thank you as well. That's good to know. :D
