New to Linux and need help with getting sound to work on my ACER Travel Mate 4064 Notebook, which uses the Realtek ALC260 chipset.

The alsamix command shows nothing muted, which seems to be a common error.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

First, you need a "new" ALSA version ( 1.10 RC2 or newer). Older versions won't work properly, or at all. Open a console, and

cat /proc/asound/version

Also: what's the output of the command

cat /proc/asound/pcm

under a console?

Finally, an

lsmod

should show the "snd-hda-intel" and "snd-pcm-oss" modules loaded.
