I'm running Mandriva 2006.0 Free on a server attached by cable modem to NTL. This machine also Sambas up file, CD-R & print serving to a handful of WinXP machines behind it.x

I have just moved from an ethernet to a wireless LAN (Edimax 7206) hanging off the server by an ethernet cable.

Until then, I had a shared internet connection, but now, after faffing around, I don't. In fact, I'm sure I had a link yesterday, and since then all i ahve done is turn the client machine off & get some sleep. Access within subnet & to printer etc is fine. Current settings are:

Eth0, eth1 & eth2 are all realtek 8139s, and have been working fine for ages.

Eth1 has the wireless network.

Eth2 is the card the wired LAN would run on if any of it were left using wires - it was too much like hard work to set up a brdige across wired & wireless LANs.

Through MCC I have:

set on ICS sharing from eth0 to eth1,

configured eth0 as dhcp (accepted the address 80.30.76.233 from isp)

configured eth1 as static 192.168.2.2 (255.255.255.0) - to match WLAN's dft IP of 192.168.2.1

configured eth2 as static 192.168.1.1 (255.225.255.0), and all 3 start at boot,

DNS servers and search domain are accepted from NTL

under miscellaneous settings, I have a host name ("server") & I have 2 DNS servers specified by isp (194.168.4.100 & 194.168.8.100).

Also under misc settings, the connection type is shown as ethernet & status as "Not connected ", although Mandriva network monitoring shows all 3 cards to be up & running

Following the advice on a older msg, I have added the line "alias net-pf-10 off" to etc/modprobe.conf.

The Wireless Access Pt has :

ip: 192.168.2.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0

gateway address 0.0.0.0

dhcp enabled

and identifies the dhcp server as:

default gateway ip: 0.0.0.0

dns ip: 0.0.0.0

start ip: 192.168.2.100

end ip: 192.168.2.200

it specifies no domain name.

If it's any use, Route & Ipconfig info from one of the WLAN attached PCs is:

C:\>route print

If the wireless access point is giving out the DHCP, it will expect itself to be the default gateway on all the clients?

Does it show the wireless router as the default gateway? You would need this to point to the Mandriva server instead using the ip of the wireless connection, since this would be how you're connecting.

The best way to think of the wireless access point/router is a bridge to your wired network. Don't use it as the default gateway, as you're likely to experience problems.

Set the clients up with static ip addresses in the same ip range as the wireless card in your Mandriva server. I think the default gateway is probably why you're unable to route, unless I'm mistaken. I would then disable DHCP on the wireless router/access point to free up resources that aren't being used.
