Can't configure Kmail [solved]

I just installed Mandriva 2006 LE.

When configuring Kmail, either by opening Kmail or Kontact, the progam seems to freeze up when I click on the button to 'APPLY' the POP and SMTP configurations. So I click the 'X' to close the program, the program closes, after a long pause, and needless to say, I have not successfully configured the mail.

When I say that it freezes I mean that the 'APPLY' button remains in the 'clicked' position and nothing happens when I click on anything else.

Did you do a clean install of Mandriva 2006 or did you upgrade? Did you have an existing .kde folder for an existing user or is it a completely new user. If it is an upgrade do a new install (don't format the /home partition that is where all your files are (ofcourse only is you keep your files in /home)). If you have an old .kde folder, rename it to .kde.bak and login again. If it works copy the files from .kde.bak to the new .kde folder.

Good luck

Do you have a file ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc ?

Pass here its contents (removing your personal details).

Here is my kmailrc file....

Did you check the permissions of the file you posted?

Yes. Root can read and write. I added myself as user and it made no differance.

And yes, there is no "account" section. You could create it by hand

Would I simply add a line that says 'account 1'? Anything more than that and I would need advice.

(or try deleting it .completely and running kmail again).

I think I'll uninstall kmail and then delete the above file and then reinstall kmail.

Solved!!!

I remembered my /home backup from my old 10.1 system. I compared its mailrc file with the one on my current 2006 system...Completely differant. So I rename my present mailrc file to mailrctemp and then copied my old file into my present system. I then fired up kmail and the first thing that happened was that it worked!!!

So, someone needs to find out why, when I install mandriva 2006 I get a disfunctional mailrc file. Has anyone else had this happen? Is that file loaded as is during install or is it created in the install process?

Not solve, but acceptable.

I did get my kmail configured by taking the kmailrc file from my old system (10.1) and copying it to 2006. However, I still am not able to operate the configuration of kmail through normal proceedures. The config window freezes up when I hit the accept button.

Anywho, I install Thunderbird and kmail is outa here.
