Hmm... what is the catch? don't mean to sound pessemistic, but usually when something is supposed to be "Free" and it is associated with the word "music" the RIAA will come knocking down the door... :D this would be a very good concept though if it was able to scour the web for Indie releases that are posted for free on a server or something to bring them to one portal. Or is this the concept and I am totally missing it? :wall: :P sounds cool in theory though.. :)

ahh... never mind... I get it. You pay for the option to be able to "save" and own the license to the track. :D Technically though, this doesn't prevent users from streaming through some sort of recording device in their soundcard though... I guess thats true for any streaming media though now days...

I cant see how this thing works.

Free.... music?

How do they get a license to distribute all this commercial music.. .free?

Take a look at the number 1 song, U2 - Beautiful Day.

Mouseover the SL icon, and look at the link in your statusbar or copy it's link address. There's the path to your free 192kbit downloadable mp3 of that song. It's not like it's a dodgy low quality copy, 192kbit would satisfy most people. (yeah I know it's not good enough for you audiophiles out there)

This thing is too good to be true. Who wants to bet on when it gets shut down?

Read the FAQ, folks. It explains a lot (OMG! NO WAY!). You register at mp3tunes.com (to get your locker) then go to sideload.com to load music from there. As far as the legal stuff:

Q: Is all the music on Sideload.com legal to sideload or download?

A: Sideload.com does not store any music, but rather links to files publicly available other places on the net. Sideload.com respects the intellectual property of others, and we ask our users to do the same. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 (the "DMCA") provides recourse for copyright owners who believe that material appearing on the Internet infringes their rights under U.S. copyright law. If you believe in good faith that materials listed on Sideload.com infringe your copyright you (or your agent) may send us a notice requesting that the material be removed, or access to it blocked. The notice must include the following information: (a) a physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed; (B) identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed (or if multiple copyrighted works located on the Site are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works); © identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or the subject of infringing activity, and information reasonably sufficient to allow Sideload.com to locate the material on the Site; (d) the name, address, telephone number and email address (if available) of the complaining party; (e) a statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law; and (f) a statement that the information in the notification is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed. If you believe in good faith that a notice of copyright infringement has been wrongly filed by Sideload.com against you, the DMCA permits you to send Sideload.com a counter-notice. Notices and counter-notices must meet the then-current statutory requirements imposed by the DMCA; see http://www.loc.gov/copyright/ for details. Notices and counter-notices with respect to the Site should be sent to MP3tunes, LLC, 9333 Genesee Ave, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92121, Attn: Emily Richards. We suggest that you consult your legal advisor before filing a notice or counter-notice. Also, be aware that there can be penalties for false claims under the DMCA.

They did it right, they won't get shut down.

Horray!

that's not to say that music won't disappear...but you know. plus, it's kind of a tool for these companies to find people who are illegally sharing copyrighted material on webpages - as it shows the source of the file.
