satelliteuser083
This is not actually so much a linux problem as a 'basics' one; sorry if this is the wrong medium, but I thought that some linux-guru might be able to help  . Does anyone know of the existance of an application for "audio-to-text" conversion, i.e. similar to an OCR but using speech as its input (instead of print)? A long shot, I imagine, but who knows....? Have just found out that this technique is called "speech recognition". Is there anything in linux? devries
http://linux-sound.org/speech.html I searched somemore and it seems older versions of Mandrake (8.0 and earlier) came with IBM's ViaVoice. Perhaps an old Mandrake user still has it on a CDrom. I'm afraid I only started using Mandrake with 9.0 so can't help you there. :)
satelliteuser083
Many thanks for your information. I've also done some searching (using your initial link), and found some similar data. Would an older CDROM be installable into LE2005, though? I certainly wouldn't know how to do that
devries
Depends on the dependencies. :) (Can't tell till I tried it)
satelliteuser083
Picking up on devries' suggestion, I don't suppose that any "old Mandrake user" still DOES have a CDROM lying around of Mandrake 8.0 (or even 7.2) with IBM's ViaVoice on it, that he or she would be prepared to donate/sell to me? B) Any help would be greatly appreciated.
ianw1974
I have a Mandrake 7.2 CD lying around somewhere back in the UK. I'm not there until about September time though. I'll see if I can find some links on the net for previous releases. EDIT: not been able to find anything as of yet. Also, my 7.2 was off a cover disk, so unsure that it has anything like viavoice with it.
