This is not actually so much a linux problem as a 'basics' one; sorry if this is the wrong medium, but I thought that some linux-guru might be able to help  . Does anyone know of the existance of an application for "audio-to-text" conversion, i.e. similar to an OCR but using speech as its input (instead of print)? A long shot, I imagine, but who knows....?

Have just found out that this technique is called "speech recognition". Is there anything in linux?

I have a Mandrake 7.2 CD lying around somewhere back in the UK. I'm not there until about September time though.

I'll see if I can find some links on the net for previous releases.

EDIT: not been able to find anything as of yet. Also, my 7.2 was off a cover disk, so unsure that it has anything like viavoice with it.
