AussieJohn
Havent tried FlightGear since I clean up graded from10.10fficial. Have installed the very latest version of Flight gear and it seems to work from the keyboard reasonably OK. My problem seems NOT to be related to FlightGear at all. The problem is that although the joystick is detected in my Mandriva2006 as shown in UsbView with all of the joysticks specs, it does not show up in Kde Control Centre ------>System---------->Joystick. It did in 10.1Official and also in 2005-LE. In MCC----------->Hardware------>Look at and configure the hardware, it is shown as in the snapshot, as a UPS device type. I have installed the latest joystick rpm package-------> Name: joystick Version: 1.2.15-4mdk Lordy lordy how I hate usb with all of its prickly problems despite it being in existance for many years. Anyone got some suggestions please, pretty please, lollypop on a stick please ????? John.
devries
Check /dev/input for a js device (and check /dev/js too). If there is one (if not post the output of lsmod here)test it with: cat /dev/input/js(x) (where x is the number of the device) and move the joystick. If you get an permissions error do as root: chmod 666 /dev/input/js(x). If cat works go to the configuration part of flightgear and make sure the joystick points to /dev/input/js(x). Good luck. devries
Looks like the joydev module isn't loaded. open a console, login as root and type: modprobe joydev
AussieJohn
Sincere thanks mate. Did that and then looked in KCC and there it was. Moving the joystick varied the figures shown and showed the trace as well. I guess there is a difference in 2006 that does not activate it as was done in 10.1 and 2005-LE................very strange. The MCC aspect hasn't changed though but I guess it doesn't matter. Cheers. John.

AussieJohn
Have noticed a slight further problem. After a reboot, the file js0 disappears from /dev/input so I have to do the <modprobe joydev> each time. Is there some way of making it stay ??? It is not a big deal, just inconvenient. Cheers. John. devries
Add joydev to /etc/modprobe.preload. That should do it.
